FAQs

Your most frequent questions answered.

Can you balance a flywheel without removing the crank?

Yes, we can balance a flywheel individually preferably with the pressure plate without needing the crank. However, if the customer wants the complete rotating assembly balanced together, we will need the crankshaft removed and sent in with the relevant components.

What do I need to send with my crank for balancing?

For a full rotating assembly balance, ideally, we would need the crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, piston pins, rings, bearings, flywheel/flexplate, clutch cover and crank pulley/damper where applicable. Basically, anything that rotates with or directly affects the balance of the crank assembly.

Do you work on motorcycle/quad/classic engines?

Yes. We work on a wide range of engines including motorcycle, quad, classic, performance, race and unusual/older applications. If somebody is unsure, they can always send us some details and photos first.

What's the cost/turnaround?

This depends heavily on the type of work and condition of the component, so it is difficult to give a universal price or turnaround. We would normally ask for the engine/component details and the work required, then quote accordingly. Turnaround can also vary depending on current workshop workload and whether any additional work is found during inspection. Typically 2-4 weeks

Do I need to send the whole engine, or just the component?

Usually just the components we are working on. There is generally no need to send a complete engine unless the job specifically requires it.

What do I need to supply with the part?

This depends on the job. Ideally we need the component itself along with the engine/application details and a clear description of the work required. For jobs involving clearances, machining to suit another component or balancing, we may also need the mating parts. If they contact us beforehand, we can confirm exactly what needs to be supplied.

Can I drop it off in person / do you accept walk-ins?

Yes, customers are welcome to bring parts directly to us. For anything more involved it is always worth contacting us beforehand so we know what is coming in and can discuss the job properly.

How do I send you photos of the damage?

Photos can be emailed over to us along with the engine/component details and a brief explanation of the problem. Clear close-up photos and a wider photo showing the complete component are normally useful.

Do you source parts too, or only machine what I provide?

We can do both. Customers can supply their own components for machining, but we can also supply various engine parts including performance pistons and connecting rods. Where appropriate we can supply the parts and machine/balance everything together as one job.

Do you do related small jobs?

Yes. We regularly take on smaller engineering jobs alongside the larger engine machining work. This can include things such as broken stud removal, thread repairs/HELICOIL’s, measuring components and other general automotive machining work. It would still be best to contact us first with details, as some jobs will depend on the component and access available.
